'Devious - Halfway to Oblivion'
Welcome to the "Devious" web site ! Devious the movie has been in production for a heck of a long time - but we only work on it occasional weekends and evenings, and we do do everything ourselves. We hope you will enjoy this website which is a celebration and documentation of the project, and the people and the experiences and events we've been involved in.
Devious isn't just the movie project - it's a social thing, a club, a group of like-minded people who all like Doctor Who (at varying levels - we're not all pure 'whovians') and have an interest in amateur film-making. We've all got on with our own lives as a priority of course, and when we've met up to further the project many things have happened - the obvious more visible examples being working with Jon Pertwee or the Comic Relief involvement (see elsewhere in the site), or the two stage plays in 2006 and 7- however there are many less tangible things which have led to the Devious Project being such an enjoyable experience over the (many many) years!

If we can give an impression of the fun we've had when working on the project in these images then all the better - as a "homage" or "tribute" to Doctor Who we hope it stands up - in no way have we ever thought of the project as something for any kind of end benefit to ourselves - think of it as a piece of artwork for people to enjoy, albeit by the medium of this website. Think of us as a "tribute band" - we've created our own vision of the programme for ourselves but always regard the TV series as true (we can't wait to see how the 11th Doctor will be imagined on screen). Ours is something only intended for our friends to see and enjoy - the website being the documenting of the film-making experience - hence you may see images not clips from the production.
The nearest anyone has got to seeing our daleks in action, for example, has been our involvement with the 2 Portsmouth Stage Plays (which were officially licenced by the BBC and Terry Nation (not to be repeated)). Those were a one-off experience which came out of the blue for us (like everything else) - we were very pleased to have been involved and did our utmost to ensure the props and sets we provided did justice to what turned out to be critically acclaimed additions to the wider Doctor Who world. "Out of the blue" is also a fitting description of how we got involved in Comic Relief 1999 or the use of our props for a week by own local BBC TV station as a backdrop for their feature on how the south of England was used for filming the classic series of Doctor Who. A few of our unfinished clips (narrated by Harry Enfield!) were used in the Comic Relief "Curse of Fatal Death" Documentary video - Ashley was described as the "Davros of Shoreham-by-Sea". He's moved away from there now!
As for the current state of the project - we've finally finished all our "live action" filming (there may be a few closeups to slip in, as well as the modelwork) and are now working on the editing and special effects. The footage has been divided into six episodes and we are also wondering what a shorter film version would be like!! All this takes time of course and so we hope you bear with us with our trickle of news now and again.
Quote of the year from David... "it's not as if we'll actually finish it"
Below is an image of us actually filming (there was a blue moon that month)...

and here's a great big starry thing hovering in a green sky - the kind of thing you'd expect ...
