more on the 6th July 2009
(update -26 June) Well, we've just pushed the button to change servers. Ashley has decided he can do more to the site in a new location so we'll let him get on with it. In the meantime you may get an interruption in service from this site. If it goes bang, blank or just looks odd then please bear with us. By next week we should be ok again. And more importantly - we got a mention in the piece on the War Games in the current Doctor Who Monthly - the bible of DW fandom and an essential purchase. With all our worrying about what would be said about our little bit we forgot that any mention in a review would in fact be in the following issue once the DVD is out - rather like the Delta and The Bannermen review in the current issue. So we have another month's grace !!!! Still - it's only ten days or so now 'til the release so let's not think of reviews - if you're interested in seeing what we've been up to and want to see what we filmed back in 1995 then hopefully you'll be entertained. And you'll LOVE one particular facial expression from the great man Mr P.!!!

(update - 18 June) Well, the bubble is about to burst! After all the years of Devious being something people knew about but never actually saw anything of - the 6th of July will see a segment released for the general DW fandom to finally see. And for the DWM to post a paragraph or so in their customary review of new DVD releases in their next isse, due out next week (25th). Maybe we are nervous. So what if the DWM reviewer doesn't like it? It's just an opinion of course as the piece of Devious will be on a "proper" DVD alongside professional pieces of work. So not surprising if reviewers find it a little wooden or amateurish perhaps.
So if it's given a mention in a review and it registers some form of approval we'll be very very happy indeed. Just to have a piece of amateur work on an official BBC DVD is acclaim enough. We're also sure that fans will see past the amateur nature of the production values, the acting, the sets etc and see what we were aiming for. After all, the piece is from 1995!!!! What could you expect from something that old? - Lord of the Rings? Star Trek? Blink? Well, not at 12 minutes anyway! At least at last you can see some parts of 'Devious' - albeit a bit old - and get some idea of what we are about, and combined with images and info on the website you'll see what the rest of the six episode epic would be like.
Actually one of our number (Arthur) has just emailed us to tell us that we got praise on the excellent Eye of Horus website - so things are looking hopeful! We just want people to enjoy what we do.

Actually we were thinking of putting a page or two together to give an overview of the story in image form (screen-grab) so you'll be able to see the context of the piece on the DVD. Would this be a good idea? (let us know!) We'd only do that after the DVD has been released for a while though.
(update - 11 June) Stephen from the team will apparently be speaking on air on BBC Radio Sussex about the War Games Devious piece in a short item on the release day the 6th July. Stephen's colleagues at the radio station news desk have got wind of the DVD release and Stephen's involvement so hopefully there'll be a short item sometime before 10AM we think. More news as and when! (Doubtless it won't happen now we've mentioned it!). Maybe there's a link so that BBC Radio Sussex can be heard online...?
(update - also 11 June) There's also a bit of a SURPRISE on the DVD Devious footage. It's also actually a NO SURPRISE as well really, once you know what it is. Any thoughts? Drop us a line with your guess via our "say hello" link if you have nothing better to do!!!! We may print the best answers - although you'll have to watch the DVD to find out though! It's only small in importance compared with the main point of the footage, but we thought it would be fun to guess about it...
Meanwhile Ashley's been rummaging around our huge archive to bring you some new(ish) images (some hitherto unpublished) to celebrate the fact that it is just one month to go before the War Games is released with some 12 minutes of Devious footage on DVD...!

Well any excuse really, as we're so excited about the release. At last you'll be able to see with the footage what we're all about and not just rely on the waffle on this website! If nothing else you'll be able to see what a bunch of amateurs can achieve - even if it is quite old! There's the odd mistake or two of course as you'd imagine, although we think the piece stands up quite well. All we hope is that you all enjoy it and agree with us that is something that Doctor Who fans as a whole should be able to see and possess - not just a bunch of fans from the south of England to hoard forever! We're delighted it has been made possible by the various parties for it to be included on a DVD release.
So here's a few unrelated images (or are they) in celebration! Below here's David in a lighter moment after a take...

whilst Tony looks the part as "The Doctor"

...and cast and crew take positions for a shot - with Tony, David, Chris and Ian W.

Here's Ashley amid set construction...

and here's a different Tardis (the Doctor's) just before something happens...

Tony with Stephen...

Nicola films a scene...

...and it all goes pear-shaped for the Doctor

and of course we can't leave out the plays! - Here's the Emperor, er empering...

and here's a hitherto unpublished shot of a couple of Doctors...

and you were expecting Jon Pertwee! - well here he is again, in oil... (or is it acrylic!)...

We'll put these pics along with loads more (and many more hitherto unpublished) in a new gallery coming soon...
NOTE TO EDITORS:
- The word "hitherto" has been revived from Ashley's 18th century dictionary and will not be used again on the site without due warning.
- That's it really.
