It is difficult to believe that Jon Pertwee passed away 30 years ago today (20th May). Doctor Who fandom is busy celebrating the 30th anniversary of the excellent TV Movie in 1996, and may not always recall that 6 days after it aired in the USA, beloved actor Jon Pertwee, for many the best Doctor (and the best scarecrow), died in his sleep in the USA. Although a great comedic actor he found that playing the Doctor ‘straight’ worked extremely well and he found great acclaim and adoration for the part, although his own favourite role was Worzel Gummidge the scarecrow.
Of course we at Devious have very strong memories, as we had had the chance to film with him back in 1995. A more detailed account of that filming day can be found elsewhere on this website …. here (Jon Pertwee).
A day of reflection.
